Shaar HaNegev Emergency Assistance Fund
Support for Israel's Southern Communities
With the support of Federation CJA, and in partnership with organizations across Montreal, we have undertaken an emergency project to assist the southern communities with the Sha'ar HaNegev region. Israeli kibbutzim and farmers near Gaza are under attack on a daily basis. Kites outfitted with flammable materials have been sent from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, igniting fires in Israel, and causing significant damage to farms and crops.

TBDJ and Federation CJA are working directly with Oded Platt, General Manager of the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council. Sh'aar Hanegev is one of several regions currently affected by these kites, suffering extensive damage to crops just ahead of their harvest season. Oded and the Regional Council were very thankful for our interest and said it was heartwarming to know that people far away have them in mind and want to assist.
Their primary needs include the purchase of 750-liter fire-fighting trailer units to attach to their tractors (CAD$11,000 each), and the purchase of additional firefighting suits (CAD$1400 each).
